The Road to War

One of the reasons I've tried to ease off of making purely video-game-related comics is that they're often situation-specific. If you don't play the game, or haven't been following it in the news, you're probably not going to get any joke I base a comic on. Consequently, game comics (that don't cater specifically to the game's users) have to be relatively self-contained, and the temptation to provide explanation via dialogue just bogs down the comedy in needless word-bubbles (and we all know I never crowd my comics with too much speech). The pros pull it off wonderfully, of course, but I have neither their experience nor their skillset, so I feel it's safest to try my best occasionally but otherwise to avoid potential disaster. I hope the above comic is, in that category at least, a near success.

Also: another comic I drew by hand! If you look carefully (read: in the direction of your monitor) you can tell where I tried really hard and where I just said fuck it, this'll never look as good as I want it. I did play at inking and colouring digitally, but I didn't bother with shading. Mainly this was because I think shading should be used to enhance a drawing, not to show off your skills (or in my case: lack thereof) at photoshopping. I have to become a much better drawer before I'm at a stage where the best way to improve my drawing is with shading. I'll work on making my lines go straight first.
